Here is a victorian ornate silverplated butter dish. The butter was put on the butter dish insert and ice would have been kept in the bottom of the dish to keep the butter cold. The dome lid has an engraved flower pattern all around the butter dish and has a finial at the top.

The butter dish is backstamped SIMPSON HALL MILLER AND CO, Wallingford, Conn. Treble Plate. There are 4 pieces including the base of the butter dish, a metal insert, dome lid and butter knife.

Condition: Please take a moment to carefully read the description so that you are knowledgeable of its conditon. I also have provided photos to help show the condition.

This butter dish has been well used. There are numerous small faint scratches to the dome. There is also some silverplate loss around the top of the dome finial. Having said that all the pieces fit together and are usable.

The dome lid has some silverplate wear to the finish primarily at the finial area. There is a 5/8 of an inch groove mark close to the lid edge as well as numerous small scratches thoughout the dome. The base of the butter dish also has some silverplate wear to the finish and numerous small scratches. The inside bottom of the butter dish has numerous small scratched and some loss to the finish although most of this will not be seen as the metal insert will cover it up. The flat metal butter holder insert is scratched and there is some silverware plate loss. Most of the surface would be covered by the butter placed there. The knife holder area is solidly attached and complete. All the handles are solidly attached and complete. I have a master butter knife which I will include however it has plate loss to the blade. It is not the original butter knife for this set however will be useful in case you don't have a butter knife.
