This is a gorgeous 12 pc set of Vintage table placemats in rare Philippine Piña cloth. Each of the Piña table placemat has a unique hand embroidered cultural scene in the bottom area. All have beautifully fine embroidery work of flowers, swags and tendrils at both sides of the pina cloth. The edges of the Piña placemats have drawnwork and a scallop edge around the four sides. Vintage Piña Table Placemat Measurement: 16 3/4" x 11" The Piña cloth is featherweight and sheer and the Piña cloth has a shimmery, silk appearance. The color is a soft gold-ish color. Vintage Piña Cloth Placemats Condition: Excellent pre-owned condition. To me, most look unused or very gently used. 1 of the Piña placemats has 1 small stain, another Piña placemat has a couple of stains. Two of the Piña placemats have a small hole to the cloth. One imperfection in the separation of fibers at the bottom edge of 1 of the placemats. Piña cloth has always been considered a unique rare textile. Piña cloth items were carried to Europe and the Americas as gifts and souvenirs. Piña is the finest of all Philippine hand woven fabrics and the cloths are usually considered an heirloom. Piña cloth is made from harvesting the fibers of the pineapple plant fronds and meticulously weaving them in fabric. The whole process in creating just the cloth is very long and laborious.
