This antique sewing bag handbag features Society Silk embroidered work. The antique handbag was likely used as a sewing bag to hold embroidery threads & notions.

The antique sewing handbag measurements are: 10” width (across the bag); 11” height from top to bottom of the bag not including the handles. The inside seam width is 2 ˝” at the sides & 2” across at the bottom of the bag. The antique sewing handbag has no closure at the top and no pockets or zippers inside. It is one open compartment similar to a shopping type bag which is open. The inside of the antique sewing handbag has no lining & the fabric has been machine-stitched around the inside seams. The flap that holds the wooden handles has been hand stitched.

The color of the antique sewing handbag is ivory with a small horizontal stripe.

The antique sewing handbag has wooden handles that measure 12" across and 2” deep. The sewing handbag’s handles I believe are from the 1930-1940’s, however the embroidery silks & gold couched thread work looks to be society silk embroidery work from an earlier time.

The hand embroidered sewing handbag's design is in silk embroidery thread with gold couched threads as well. The embroidery colors are shades of teal blue, pink, magenta, cream and green. The design is a starburst motif with a leaf pattern. The embroidered colors shimmer from the embroidery thread and gold couched threads.

Antique sewing handbag condition: The antique sewing handbag is in good condition. There is a small mend to the embroidery thread on the handbag in one spot (see photo). A couple of small snags to the fabric on the front and back side of the antique sewing handbag which will need a tiny mend with a needle and thread. Some storage marks on the back side which may need to be spot treated.
